About This Course

Setting expectations and understanding the scope of this awareness course.

What This Course Is and Is Not

This course will give you a foundational awareness of common pet emergencies in Australia. It is designed to help you:

  • Recognise the signs of common emergencies
  • Understand what NOT to do (avoiding actions that make things worse)
  • Know when and how to get your pet to a vet quickly
  • Assemble a pet first aid kit for your home

This course covers awareness only. For hands-on training, we strongly encourage you to complete a formal pet first aid course from an accredited provider. Organisations like the RSPCA, Animal Emergency Australia, and various registered training organisations offer practical courses with certification.

Important

This course provides general education and awareness information only. It is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice. Always consult your veterinarian for questions about your pet's health, diet, or medical care.

Warning

This course is an awareness resource only. It does not constitute first aid certification or replace formal pet first aid training from an accredited provider.

The Core Principle

The single most important thing you can do in any pet emergency is get your pet to a vet as quickly and safely as possible. First aid for pets is not about treating the problem yourself — it is about keeping your pet stable and safe during transport to professional care.

Throughout this course, you will see the same message repeated: go to your vet. That is deliberate. In an emergency, the vet is always the answer.
